Ben Bradford Outdoor Training offers a range of courses to suit all abilities.
We offer a variety of courses for all abilities. Beginner courses are based on Dartmoor but many others are nationwide on the best rock that Britain has to offer.
Beginner Courses
Duration: 1 or 2 day course Location: Dartmoor Previous Experience Required: None Ratio: 1:6 Price: £110 per person for two day course.
Have a go at Climbing and Abseiling in a informal and relaxed atmosphere. Based on Dartmoor we practice climbing technique as well as belaying and other rope systems. All equipment provided, just bring a packed lunch!
Rock Improver
Duration: 2 days minimum Location: Dartmoor or Lands End Previous Experience Required: Beginner Course or Equivalent Ratio: 1:4 maximum Price: £120 per person for two day course.
Learn to setup top ropes and belay systems as well as getting some great climbs in the bag!
Learn To Lead
Duration: 2 days minimum Can be combined with Rock improver's course Location: Devon, Cornwall, Snowdonia, Lake District Previous Experience Required: Confident in setting up top-Ropes. Ratio:1:2 Price: £130 per person for two days.
Learn to lead climb in a safe, encouraging environment. Practice your gear placements and get on the sharp end with confidence!
Single Pitch Award (SPA) Refresher
Duration: 1 -2 Days Location: Dartmoor
We run refresher days for people brushing up on their skills prior to training or assessment. Covering any part of the syllabus you would like to practice before your course.
Classic Climbs
Duration: 1 - 5 Days Location: Nationwide Previous Experience Required: 1 day beginner course or equivalent. Ratio: 1:2 Max Prices start at £120 for 1:1 and £160 1:2.
From novice to extreme leader, there are some classic climbs in Devon and Cornwall for you!
Advanced Sea Cliff Climbing
Duration: 1 - 5 Days Location: Devon and Cornwall Previous Experience Required: Confident leading Severe Ratio: 1:2 Max Prices start at £120 for 1:1 and £160 1:2.
Before you head to the bigger sea cliffs this season take a course in Sea Cliff Rescue techniques: Prussiking, abseiling and rescue systems. We also get some pretty exciting climbing done along the way as well!
Whats Included?
All technical equipment is provided such as Maps, Compass and GPS for Navigation courses and a harness, helmet, ropes etc. for Rock Climbing or Scrambling.
Should you wish to use any of your own technical equipment then please bring it along. It will be subject to a quick inspection before use and we reserve the right to ban any faulty equipment from the course.
Personal Equipment - you will need to bring:
You will need to bring personal equipment such as waterproofs , warm clothes, walking boots, rucksack etc. However, these can be hired if required. Bring a packed lunch and money for an ice-cream.
Transport :
You will need to have your own transport for the course, however we do try to car share as much as possible. Where courses are advertised as transport included then you will need to confirm that you would like to leave your car at your accommodation, prior to the course.
We normally keep our travelling time down to half an hour or so.
Personal Insurance:
Ben Bradford and any Associate Instructors hold their own Public Liability and Indemnity insurance. All though very rare, bumps and scrapes DO happen in the outdoors so we encourage all clients to purchase personal accident cover and cancellation insurance in the event of them being unable to attend the course. These policies can be provided by the British Mountaineering Council.
Accommodation:
In addition for most courses you will need to provide your own accommodation. This allows for a variety of budgets with a great deal of campsites, bunk houses, B&B's and Hotels on the edges of Dartmoor. We can recommend several options when booking your course.
Timings: We usually meet at 9.30am at a pre-arranged meeting point from where it is a short drive to the days venue. We aim to finish the day at 5.00pm.
