Essential Items that every Dartmoor Holiday Cottage should have
It can be disappointing for travellers to go on holiday and end up not having household conveniences available for use in the holiday rental property. Although our properties are geared toward the self catering market, there are ways to help make a property more convenient for guests. Here we explain why guests need certain basic amenities.
See below for a full Equipment and Facilities Checklist, which lists all the required necessities.
1. A hair dryer
Many travellers can not fit a hair dryer in their suitcase, nor do they want to lug it around. Plus, since many Dartmoor Hotels provide hair dryers, they might expect it of their holiday homes too. You can easily buy one relatively cheaply.
2. Toilet paper
Imagine you’ve just had a long journey. You’ve been driving all night, caught connecting trains, or have just landed after your long stressful flight. We’re not going to mention the first thing that most people do when they arrive, but they breathe a sigh of relief afterwards. Now imagine your horror when you reach for the toilet paper holder and it’s empty! Don’t make your guests suffer this.
3. Ironing board
You might already have an iron, but we also recommend having a full-size ironing board. After everything gets wrinkled in their suitcases, your travellers will probably appreciate not having to sit on the floor to iron.
4. Starter pack of coffee, tea bags, milk (or UHT milk) and sugar
This is especially helpful if many of your travellers arrive at night. You don't have to provide coffee/tea for their entire stay, but it helps to keep them less grumpy on the first morning.
5. Oven gloves
The last thing you want is to have one of your guests get burned. Keep oven gloves near the oven or cooking equipment.
6. Salt and pepper
Providing an array of spices is helpful for the renters who plan to cook, but at the very least, be sure to leave some salt and pepper in the cupboard.
7. Pillow protectors and mattress pads
These items will help your pillows and mattresses last longer and will add to the appearance of cleanliness at your home.
8. Towels and bed linen
Even the most basic holiday rental should provide two bath towels, two hand towels, and four wash cloths for every guest they sleep. Make sure there’s also two sets of bedlinen for every bed, incase the sheets need to be changed. If it gets cold some extra blankets would also be much apprechiated.
9. Bin liners in rubbish bins
Keeping rubbish bags in all of your dustbins just appears cleaner. And you wouldn’t want raw household waste going directly into your bins? Don't forget the small WC dustbins, too.
If you don't have air conditioning or ceiling fans, it's easy to place a couple of tabletop fans in the cupboard so your guests can stay cool and comfortable.
In case of sickness or allergies don't make your guests use toilet paper every time they need to blow their noses.
12. A full-length mirror
A simple full-length mirror is inexpensive and can be hung on the back of the bedroom doors.
13. A deck of cards
Keep your guests entertained during the evenings and rainy days. A variety of games is optimal, but you can't go wrong with a simple deck of cards.
14. A guestbook
a guest book will encourage Dartmoor Visitorsrenters to leave a review.
