Welcome to Three Pound Cottage

Three Pound Cottage is a picture perfect “chocolate box” thatched holiday cottage situated in the heart of the idyllic village of Lustleigh,- voted best village on Dartmoor and voted one of England’s best villages by the Daily Telegraph.
Although a 16th century grade II listed historic cottage, it has been sensitively restored to provide all the comforts of modern living, such as underfloor heating, whilst preserving the cottage’s historic charm and quirkiness - original features include an inglenook fireplace with wood-burner, beams throughout plus an original granite staircase (don’t panic there is a second modern staircase too).

To ensure a comfortable stay whatever the weather, the cottage is equipped with a modern heating/hot water system under your complete control, wifi and smart TV’s with all the catch-up TV players, Netflix etc.  In addition, all bedrooms are equipped with internet connection points just in case you need more speed than wifi.  As you would expect, there is a fully equipped kitchen and a small utility room.

With 3 bedrooms and 2 modern bathrooms, Three Pound Cottage sleeps up to 5 guests comfortably.  Whilst perfect for families looking to explore Dartmoor and Devon, this cosy yet spacious holiday cottage is also ideal for couples or friends seeking a relaxing escape, encompassing long walks on Dartmoor and evenings spent relaxing in front of the fire.

Three Pound Cottage is in a truly picturesque setting and is often the subject of visiting artists and photographers.  Despite being only a stone’s throw from the village shop and the award-winning village pub, there is an array of scenic walks for all abilities literally from the front door.  With Lustleigh’s unique location in the Wrey valley you can take in the spectacular views along the famous Lustleigh Cleave one day followed by a relaxing riverside walk the next musing over the thousands of people and cart horses to use the “packhorse” bridges through the centuries – it really is an ideal location for keen walkers and ramblers.

Lustleigh is truly beautiful, packed with thatched cottages and a warm welcoming community which shines on May Day with village celebrations, Maypole dancing and crowning of the May Queen, August Bank Holiday when the village puts on the impressive Lustleigh Show – not forgetting the fun Boxing Day rubber duck race.

Within the village you’ll find a friendly shop, “The Dairy”, stocked with lots of local produce as well as all the essentials such as milk, bread, wine etc not forgetting the famous Devon Clotted Cream and home-made Scones.  There’s also a warm welcome waiting for you in the award winning pub “The Cleave” offering fantastic food in a relaxed and jovial atmosphere.  For younger guests there’s a children’s play area in the Orchard, a magical place to explore where it’s all too easy to believe in Dartmoor Pixies.  The Orchard also forms part of many of the varied walks around Lustleigh.

However, in the unlikely event that you become bored with the stunning scenery and wonderful walks, Haytor (probably the most iconic tor), Hounds Tor, The 10 Commandment Stones, Jays Grave, Bowerman’s Nose, Trenchford & Tottiford Reservoirs (also good for picnics & fishing) are but a short drive away.  As are the towns of Bovey Tracey, Chagford, Moretanhampstead and Ashburton for those who need a bit of bustle.
Indeed, Lustleigh benefits from good access to the main roads making it the perfect base camp - not only easy to get to, but also easy to explore Dartmoor and further afield including Devon’s coastal towns/villages and beaches – Shaldon and Teignmouth are a great day out by the seaside.  In fact, a day out to Cornwall is not too much of a challenge, whether it be Mevagissy, Padstow, St Ives, Tintagel or Boscastle.
For the more adventurous, Dartmoor offers a wide range of activities from Horseriding to Bouldering, not forgetting River Swimming, Kayaking and Archery.  And of course there is an abundance of family visitor attractions. There really is so much to see and do – don’t take our word for it, check us out on Tripadvisor and hear from our many returning guests.

With two dramatic coastlines, two national parks, two historic cities, five Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, charming towns, quaint villages and a plethora of visitor attractions, Devon is an amazing destination to get the most from your holiday.
Lustleigh is situated in a most beautiful part of the Dartmoor National Park which offers 365 square miles of stunning scenery, wildlife and wonderful walks, full of ancient sites and adventure.  With easy access to the main roads, Lustleigh is a great base to explore both Dartmoor and Devon.
