Dartmoor Dog Training
Find a local dog training course or obedience class for your dog, here on Dartmoor. There are many different stages that you will see, when it comes to training a dog. There are young puppies that will need the basics, all the way up to dogs that perform services and need advanced training sessions.
Training a dog is something that really is rather unpredictable, in that you never really know from dog to dog how long it is going to take. Some dogs get it immediately, while others take some time. This is no different than people really, as we all have our own specific learning curve.
One thing you will quickly catch on to when doing dog training, is that you have to do everything with a level of time sensitivity. This means that nothing should be rushed when it comes to the training sessions, and you should never expect that the dog is completely ready to move on to the next level.

Most dog training is lure and reward
training, the most effective dog training method. The aim is to fade out the
need for food lures and treat bags so that the dog is reliable in all
situations to verbal cues and hand signals, off lead, around the home
and out on walks. The intention is to make training for the dog self rewarding,
so that training efforts forever remain. This is Classical
Conditioning for socialisation (the dog continues to enjoy the company
of people and other dogs) which does require continued use of treats.
Training
sessions are taught off lead for the puppy levels to ensure reliability
and control. Classes are generally designed to promote dog and people
friendly pet dogs whilst being able to rely on verbal off lead cues in
the home, garden and on walks etc...so don't be shy sort out a dog training specialist as soon as possible.
