Description
Small groups, a relaxed and leisurely walking pace with a guide who has lived and worked in the area for twenty years. Dartmoor Nature Tours offer wildlife walks and tours to suit individual customer requirements.
More Information
Bird Tours
(April to July)
These will concentrate on areas such as Yarner Wood, Trendlebere Down and the Bovey Valley Woodlands where a wide range of birds of upland oakwoods (pied flycatcher, lesser spotted woodpecker etc.) and heathlands (Dartford warbler) can be seen. Many of the typical moorland species (wheatear, snipe, curlew, lapwing) can also be found nearby.
Butterfly Walks
(May to August)
Dartmoor is still a stronghold for species such as pearl bordered, small pearl bordered, marsh and high brown fritillary as well as many others.
Fungi Forays
(October to November)
These forays will provide an introduction to fungi and how to identify some of the more common edible and poisonous species.
Dusk Walks
(May-July)
These last from 8 pm. to 10.00 pm. and provide participants with the chance to see roe deer, badgers, foxes, glow worms and the ghostly nightjar.
Winter Bird Walks
Although there are fewer species on Dartmoor in winter, resident birds such as Dartford warbler and lesser spotted woodpecker can still be seen as well as winter visitors such as fieldfare, redwing and woodcock.
Woodland Walks
(All year)
These walks look at Dartmoor woodlands in terms of their past cultural and economic management and local history. The impact of the Industrial Revolution can still be seen on many of the Dartmoor woods.

s
(All year)
Several authors have set novels in the Dartmoor area but Eden Phillpotts (1862 - 1960) is one of the most famous and prolific. Many of the buildings and features he described can still be seen on the ground.
