Description

Set within the boundary of the Dartmoor National Park in the historic village of Lydford

Set midway between the north and south coast of Devon, just 4 miles from the Cornwall border, the site is ideal for exploring the many delights of the West Country. The recently upgraded site and facilities will provide you with a pretty and quiet location with stunning views of the High Tors of Dartmoor. We are the proud recipients of the David Bellamy Gold Award for enviromental excellence in touring parks for 2008 and now also 2009.

We offer level hardstanding and grass pitches, with a separate dedicated area for tents.

Many local attractions and quality Pubs and Restaurants are within easy walking distance of the site. For a special treat, visit "La Cascata", an award winning Italian restaurant at Lydford House Hotel.

Visit Lydford Gorge, Lydford Viaduct, Lydford Castle, Lydford Church, the Granite Way, Dartmoor, and the village itself, much of which is steeped in history.

Tavistock to the south and Okehampton to the north, both with many interesting features are fifteen minutes drive, or by regular bus service just 100 yards from site. Cycle to Okehampton via the Granite Way cycle track.

We welcome, Caravans, Motor Homes, Folding campers and Tents, maximum length 9metres (29ft)

We are affiliated to the Caravan Club. Non members and international visitors also very welcome.

Toilet Block

Cleaning closing time is 11am to 12.30pm. The Parent and Child room (toilet and handwashing only) is open during these hours. Keys to both our disabled and parent and child rooms are available to those who need them for the duration of their stay on payment of a refundable £5 deposit. Our modern centrally heated facilities offer showers and private wash cubicles, together with ample toilets, all maintained to the highest levels of cleanliness.

Laundry Area

The washing machine costs £3 per wash and the tumble-dryer 50p for 20 minutes. Detergent is available from reception. There are handwashing sinks and both indoor and outdoor airers and drying lines. A National Park regulation does not allow washing lines around the park or units.

Recreation

Soft ball games are permitted away from all units on site. We do not allow frisbees, kites and other projectile activities on site. There is a recreation ground close to the site open to the public but no dogs allowed.

Walking

Walking is virtually endless from the site. We will be pleased to advise and suggest walks. Try letterboxing on Dartmoor (a form of orienteering) . Good walking clothing and footware is advisable when walking on Dartmoor. We can advise about MOD firing areas and timings.

Cycling

The famous, mainly level, Granite Way Sustrans Cycle Path starts near the site. Ask for a leaflet and advice. The local terrain is otherwise hilly and should be taken into consideration before setting out.

Dogs and Pets

All dogs and pets are welcome. Our dog walk is heralded as one of the best. A 1km part sloping walk offers part shady walking with superb views of Dartmoor. Dog bins are provided and a seat half way is a place to spend a short time admiring the surrounding views. All we ask is that all pets be kept on a short lead and under control on every part of the site including the dog walk at all times. We can arrange dog sitting in the village if you cannot take your pet with you on a day out.

Rubbish and Re-cycling

Disposal points can be found throughout the site. We currently re-cycle clean; glass, cans, paper and cardboard;

Drinking Water and Waste Water

There are a number of fresh water points and grey water drains throughout the site. There is also a dedicated Motor-Home service bay with fresh water, grey and black waste drains. Portable Elsan disposal is at the rear of the facilities building.

Electricity

Electric hook-ups if booked provide 16 amps peak output. Careful use of electricity is advised and constant maximum loading - in common with other sites - should not be attempted.

Bus Service

Runs mostly two hourly from the War Memorial (100 yds) south to Plymouth via Tavistock and north to Barnstaple via Okehampton.
