A lovely little village at the start of some of Dartmoors finest walking, half a mile to the start of Dr Blackall's Drive that winds its way along the valley with amazing views over Holne woods and the River Dart. A fine pub - "The Tavistock Inn" - awaits the weary who take advantage of the stunning local views and walks around or to Poundsgate that vary in difficulty. Dr Blackall's Drive, for example, is part of the Two Moors Way and allows the walker a stunning view of the River Dart and Poundsgate's surrounding tors. The drive, built by Thomas Blackall, allows all to share his love of the Poundsgate views and Dartmoor countryside.

There is good riding nearby at Poundsgate's Babeny Farm Stables if it's riding that lights your candle and you want to cover some ground across the moors without the effort of hiking.

The local pub is said to have been visited by the Devil, and there is a legend that a ring on the oak bar is a result of the Devil's visit to Poundsgate, in which he encountered the local fine ale and burnt the bar because it was "too good" for him!
