Walking In Dartmoor
Anchored on granite and topped with moss and Bracken the huge
spectacular Dartmoor provides an elemental, ancient walking
environment. With its rounded hills piles of granite rocks or Tors;
looking for the entire world like massive sculptures. Dartmoor’s past
is present all round with its mood laden weather changes covered with a
vast array of ancient monuments, remains. As you walk on Dartmoor you
are forever stumbling across stone circles, prehistoric burial mounds,
stone rows (particularly at Merrivale) and the largest concentration of
bronze age hut circles to be found in Britain. You’ll also see 100 year
old stone clapper bridges and medieval Crosses.
If your coming for a walking holiday in the Dartmoor national park, you may choose to go on an organised walk. This method can be benificial on Dartmoor due to the vast area that Dartmoor covers. If you are taking a short break this really allows you to see the best places and wildlife available and the time you visit. Grab a pair of boots and head to Dartmoor - not only do you get amazing
views while you exercise, you get to round off your workout with a
well-deserved cake.
