Yelverton, once best known for its involved approach to the Second World War (many airmen were stationed here during the war and Yelverton's church had an unfortunate meeting with a speeding plane that did not deter the residents from constructing an airfield for fighter planes), is now far more frequently mentioned for its status as the birthplace of local music star (and popular teen heart-throb) Seth Lakeman, a Mercury Prize Nominee.

Yelverton remains untouched by its fame, however, and a quietly content community atmosphere can be found here as well as plenty of things to do. Local art is displayed in the Yelverton Paperweight Centre, a permanent exhibition of local talent, and golfers are provided for in the Yelverton Golf Club.

On a clear day, Yelverton provides stunning views of the surrounding moorland and many opportunities for walking are offered - nearby is Burrator Reservoir, a charming spot for circular walks that can be concluded with a meal or a rest at one of Yelverton's many Pubs or Bed and Breakfasts.
